Today in 1959, Control Data Corporation (CDC) released the model 1604 computer, designed by Seymour Cray.
Control Data Corporation was founded by a group of former Sperry Rand Corporation employees led by William Norris. At the time of its release, the 1604 was the most powerful computer on the market and it became the world’s first commercially successful transistorized computer.
Seymour Cray later established Cray Research and became known as “the father of supercomputing.”
