Today in 1840, Samuel F.B. Morse received a patent (US No. 1,647) for “Improvement in the mode of communicating information by signals.”
Later, this method of communications became known as the “Morse Code.”
In the United States, the final commercial Morse code transmission was on July 12, 1999, signing off with Samuel Morse's 1844 first telegraph message, WHAT HATH GOD WROUGHT, and the sign for "end of contact."
