Today in 1950, the Pilot ACE, one of the first computers built in the United Kingdom, at the National Physical Laboratory (NPL), ran its first program. It was a preliminary version of the full ACE (automatic Computing Engine) which was designed by Alan Turing, who left NPL before the Pilot ACE’s development was completed.
